Planta Fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common sources of heel pain.

Plantar fascia is a thick fibrous band of connective tissue that originates from the bottom surface of the calcaneus (heel bone) and runs along the sole of the foot towards the toes.

Your Plantar fascia acts to stop the over flattening of your arch. When there is too much force or it is repetitively overused micro tears develop, this is known as Plantar fasciitis

Causes of Plantar Fasciitis

  • Running sports
  • High impact landing
  • Poor foot biomechanics
  • Flat feet
  • Weak arches

Due to muscle imbalances and poor foot biomechanics being the primary sources of Plantar Fasciitis it is extremely important that we assess and correct these areas to determine what stage its at and to prevent the further progression and future Plantar fascia episodes.

Symptoms of Plantar Fasciitis are dependent upon severity and can include:

  • Pain at the heel of the foot
  • Pain when walking
  • Pain before, during or after exercise
  • Pain when extending toes

Our Myotherapists are trained to thoroughly assess Plantar fasciitis and will put together an individualised treatment plan to help relieve pain and restore normal function back to your body. They will provide corrective exercises to strengthen and maintain strong arches. Furthermore they will assess your footwear, walking and running patterns and make any recommendations that will improve your biomechanics for pain free running.

Depending on your presentation treatment may include a combination of the following techniques:

  • Soft and Deep Tissue Massage
  • Myofascial Cupping
  • Myofascial Dry Needling
  • Stretching
  • TENS
  • Hot and Cold Therapies
  • Taping
  • Postural and Corrective Exercises
