What is Dry Needling and How does it help?

Dry needling is a method whereby solid filament needles are safely introduced into the skin and muscle tissues below.

The aim of Dry needling is to specifically target and restore muscle function, with an emphasis on improving tissue healing, increasing the bodies healing response and thus, restoring normal tissue function. This is important as continued activity with poor muscle function may lead to further tissue damage and increased pain.

Our Myotherapists are trained to feel for Trigger Points (areas of tightness and contraction through the body) commonly referred to as ‘knots’, which may be the source of your pain and dysfunction. We will then target these areas with Dry Needling.

Commonly an immediate release of the muscle is felt after Dry Needling and an observable increase in tissue range and function. The process does create an increased healing response in the body with some clients feeling a very slight dull ache afterwards. We encourage all clients to apply heat and some light stretching after Dry Needling to maximise its lasting effect.

Please ask your Myotherapist next time about the benefits of Dry Needling. Alternatively, if you have any questions regarding Dry Needling or would like make an appointment with our Myotherapists call Essential Health on 9663 5134 to book an appointment today.
